For Table of Related Endorsements:

    1) Candidates will be required to pass all WEST-E’s;

    2) edTPA- Programs will have discretion of which edTPA candidates will take during student teaching;

    3) Placement:

        a) Field experiences* will be required in both endorsement areas prior to certification.
            (* note: PESB staff will align this terminology with the PESB metrics group’s language so that the term related to a candidate’s field experience is consistent and defined).

        b) Student teaching will be at the discretion of the program.

For Table of Somewhat Related Endorsements:

    1) Candidates will be required to pass all WEST-E’s;

    2) edTPA- Programs will have discretion of which edTPA candidates will take during student teaching;

        a) As part of program’s annual evaluation and data submissions, PESB will review the institutions’ selection of edTPA’s for candidates exiting with multiple endorsements.

    3) Placement:

        a) Field experiences* will be required in both areas prior to certification. (* note: PESB staff will align this terminology with the PESB metrics group’s language so that the term

            related to a candidate’s field experience is consistent and defined).

For Table of Unrelated Endorsements:

    1) Candidates will be required to pass all WEST-E’s;

    2) edTPA- Programs will have discretion of which edTPA candidates will take during student teaching;

        a) As part of program’s annual evaluation and data submissions, PESB will review the institutions’ selection of edTPA’s for candidates exiting with multiple endorsements.

    3) Placement:

        a) Field experiences* will be required to satisfy all endorsement competencies in each endorsement area prior to certification.

            For example, a closer review of field experiences as required by programs may be necessary for candidates exiting with combinations of Early Childhood Education (ECE),

            Elementary Education (Elem), Special Education (Sped) and Early Childhood Special Education. (* note: PESB staff will align this terminology with the PESB metrics group’s

            language so that the term related to a candidate’s field experience is consistent and defined).

        b) Student teaching will be at the discretion of the program.

The work Group identified the following as possible considerations that stakeholders may also want to address:

Other Considerations:

  • The work group recognizes that placement decisions may pose challenges to various programs within the institution and will be seeking additional information from their constituents;
  • The work group also recognizes that programs within the institutions employ a wide range of assessments in content areas as a component of their preparation program;
  • Is it possible to pull out combinations related to endorsement parings such as Early Childhood Education (ECE), Elementary Education (Elem), Special Education (Sped) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECE/Sped) and have specific criteria to address the competencies covered under these endorsements?
  • Are there any endorsement pairings not covered on the alignment tables?
  • What if candidate is seeking more than 2 endorsements?
  • Others?
