PPA-C Welcome Letter

Dear Colleague,

Your name and contact information was provided to PESB by your Deans/Directors/Associations as representatives from your institutions/associations to participate on PESB’s Performance Pedagogy Assessment for Certified teachers (PPA-C) stakeholder work group. The purpose of the PPA-C work group is to examine the elements of the original Performance Pedagogy Assessment (PPA) and recommend how to re-package it to better reflect the knowledge and skills that veteran teachers seeking to add endorsements possess. PESB staff would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to lend your expertise to this important work.

As some of you may be aware, at the March 2012 PESB meeting, PESB Members approved the continued use of the PPA for certified teachers seeking to add endorsements via Pathway 2. The original PPA was developed for pre-service candidates exiting teacher preparation programs. Because the intended use of the PPA instrument was with pre-service teachers, the Board is requesting that staff convene a stakeholder work group for the purpose of developing an instrument that better reflects the knowledge and skills that veteran teachers possess.

To assist us in communicating our progress related to this charge to your constituencies and the field, PESB staff has established a web page for this work group at:

http://assessment.pesb.wa.gov/home/wk-grps/ppa-c

We request that you visit the webpage and read though the expectations for the work group that we have posted there. We will utilize the this webpage as our main vehicle of communication related to our work, so please take a few minutes to visit the link and familiarize yourself with the information that is posted there.

We have scheduled the initial and only face to face meeting for the PPA-C work group for Oct. 10, 2012, from 9:00-4:00 at OSPI in Olympia. The purpose of this first meeting is to establish the background and protocols for our work moving forward. We realize that this date may not work with everyone’s schedule so we have established additional ways for members to participate.

In addition to the face to face meeting in Olympia, the meeting will be available to work group participants in two additional modalities. We ask that you select the most convenient modality for you to participate on Oct. 10th.

  1. In person
  2. Via Go to Meeting webinar
  3. Via k-20 network
For participants who plan on attending the meeting in person, PESB will pay mileage reimbursement( up to 300 miles). Those participating by Go To Meeting or K-20 network, we will send you the pertinent logistical/log in/connectivity information to you at a later date. Lunch will be on your own. It is our understanding that some ESD’s charge for K-20 access. If you choose to access the meeting via K-20 network at a site where charges apply, please note that PESB does not have the ability to pay for these usage fees.

At this time we would ask that you reply to this e-mail and let us know the following information:
  • Name
  • Title
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Affiliation
  • How you will be joining us on October 10th
    • In person
    • Go To Meeting
    • K20 network (site of the network you will be using)
Once again, on behalf of PESB, we would like to thank you for your willingness to assist with this important work.
Best regards,

Patti Larriva
