2012-13 Special Education handbook(s)

The 2012-13 Special Education handbook(s) will be released in late fall 2012 and undergo additional field testing in winter/spring 2013 to be sure they meet validity and reliability requirements for consequential assessments.  The current handbooks are currently undergoing revisions based on the national 2012 field test, and may be combined into a single handbook.  Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equality (SCALE) will post changes in the handbook(s) in late August.  For institutions submitting special education TPAs in the 2011-12 Field Test who want to maintain continuity with fall graduates in special education, please use the pre-release version of the Special Education handbooks together with the list of changes along with the summary of changes to guide your work with candidates.  Special Education edTPAs will be evaluated locally; Pearson will not be scoring special education candidate submissions in fall 2012.  Pre-release versions of the Washington special education handbooks will be available from links posted in the Materials and Discussion section or the Special Education group on TPAC Online.

For winter/spring 2013,(operational phase) field test versions of handbooks will be available in additional fields:
  • Agriculture
  • World Language (Latin)
  • Business
  • Technology Education
  • Family and Consumer Science
  • Health
These handbooks are beginning development and will be available in late fall.

Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) will collect the Declaration of Compliance Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) video consent forms and videotaping policy from all Washington’s approved teacher preparation programs. The declarations are to be signed by the Dean or Dean Designee and returned to PESB office by October 1, 2012. Annually the Dean or Dean’s Designee will sign the form which will be kept on file at the institution for review by PESB staff as needed.
